WHO WE ARE

About YMCA of Southwest Florida

Since 1967, YMCA of Southwest Florida has been a leading non-profit strengthening southwest Florida community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Driven by its founding mission, the Y empowers everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships and opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, the Y aims to improve overall health and well-being, ignite youth empowerment, and demonstrate the importance of connections in and across Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, Desoto, Hendry and Glades Counties.

About CoreSRQ, now Sarasota City YMCA and Palmer Ranch YMCA

With the unwavering support of the community, new organizational leadership saved our branches from permanent closure in 2019. Funds were raised to secure the purchase of the facilities, establishing the framework to allow CoreSRQ to serve the Sarasota community.

Prior to the formation of CoreSRQ, the Sarasota Y’s had been a fixture in our community for almost 80 years. With this merger, the YMCA SWFL branches will continue this legacy as Sarasota’s first and best-loved “gym.” In addition to producing world-class swimmers and other competitive ultra-athletes, the Y’s guiding principles have helped keep Sarasota healthy in mind, body and spirit since 1945.

LEADERSHIP

CoreSRQ, Inc. has achieved, by virtue of a grass roots community movement, a resurrection of the community-based programs and services that have been enjoyed by the Sarasota community for more than 70 years. In September 2019, the CoreSRQ community surmounted numerous global and secular challenges because of the many dedicated, persistent members of the Sarasota community who refused to allow the Sarasota and Palmer Ranch branch facilities to perish. These branches are considerably more than “gyms” or “fitness centers.” CoreSRQ differentiates itself by offering innovative, comprehensive wellness and community outreach programs that afford members of the Sarasota community the opportunity to reach their full potential in terms of fitness, wellness and community engagement. Our mission is the amplification of broad-based, multi-generational community education and wellness. Through strategic community partnerships and innovative programming, CoreSRQ intends to expand its reach to unserved and underserved members of our community to enhance their physical, emotional and social well-being.

You support CoreSRQ by simply being a member. You serve CoreSRQ as an ambassador when you invite your friends and neighbors to visit CoreSRQ for themselves to experience all of the wonderful programs, activities and fellowship that CoreSRQ has to offer. Volunteer opportunities to support your Sarasota community through Core SRQ programs and initiatives are legion.

CoreSRQ leadership is committed to preserving this cherished community asset by addressing its capital needs and developing educational initiatives that meet the needs of the community. Our intent is to enhance the Sarasota community for decades to come with the support of dedicated community member partners like you.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MANAGEMENT, AND STAFF

A core tenet of our management and board is a willingness to consider constructive criticism and suggestions from staff and members. Suggestions regarding program offerings or observations regarding suggested changes are seriously considered although it may not be feasible to accommodate every request.
